The MIDC police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested four men last week for allegedly murdering a tourist car driver. According to police, the six accused they are on lookout for two more accused had hired the car pretending to be travellers and killed the driver before fleeing to Uttar Pradesh in the same car. The arrested have been booked on charges of murder, kidnapping and criminal breach of trust, said the police.
On September 13,a group of six men approached Nidhi Travels in Andheri and hired a car to go to Baroda. However,on September 14,when the travel agency owner Omprasad Mehra was not able to contact Krishnakant Rai Yadav, the car driver, over phone despite repeated attempts,he lodged a missing complaint with the MIDC police.
Initially,we had registered a missing persons complaint and later changed it into a criminal breach of trust complaint against Yadav as the owner of the car suspected that he had stolen the vehicle. However,as we couldnt trace him,we procured the call records of the people who had called up to book the cab. Though we tried to contact them, the phone was disconnected. But using the call details,we were able to trace the details of Jaiprakash Tiwari who had called up the agency saying that he wanted to go to Baroda, said senior police inspector Pradeep Suryavanshi of MIDC police station.
Tiwaris address turned out to be bogus but the police managed to trace Tiwaris former employer who directed them to his original address. Another travel agency owner informed us that Tiwari used to work with him as a driver and would often disappear to his village in Uttar Pradesh. We arrested Tiwari from his residence in Andheri and he confessed to have committed the crime. They had strangulated the driver and thrown his body into the valley at Pawagad, which is 25 kms from Baroda. They had then taken the car to Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh said Suryavanshi.
Tiwari led a police team to the spot where the gang had thrown Yadavs body. The police team also visited Wagodiya police station in the area from where they have learnt that on September 24,a skeleton was discovered and buried.
Tiwari also led us to his accomplices Shivkumar Lalmani,Pushpapratap Singh and Maheshkumar Singh. They named two more people who are also part of the gangRamesh Pathak and Rama. They are yet to be arrested. We have also seized another stolen car which bears a Madhya Pradsh number plate, said Suryavanshi.
