Veteran Congressman and former minister Yeshwantrao Mohite died in Karad,Satara,on Saturday. He was 90. Mohite had played a crucial role in the Samyukta Maharashtra movement (for inclusion of Mumbai in Maharashtra) and had pioneered the monopoly cotton procurement scheme in the state to provide relief to cotton farmers. He is also credited with spreading the network of state transport buses and creating a board for housing repair. He had been the minister of agriculture,cooperation,home,housing and transport in various governments.
BJP plans rath yatra during Ganesh fest
The city unit of BJP will take out a rath during the Ganpathi festival to reach out to people on issues like inflation,terrorism and hike in power tariff. We demand that the tariff hike be rolled back. The government has also failed in reining in inflation, said Mumbai unit chief Gopal Shetty. The rath will showcase a skit prepared by the womens wing of the party on these issues.
Now,NCP prepares to contest all seats
The NCP has started preparations to contest all the 288 assembly seats in the wake of MPCC chief Manikrao Thakres outbursts on seat-sharing. State general secretary and spokesperson Prakash Binsale said party district presidents had been instructed to send applications from aspirants to its state headquarters.
He said the exercise would begin on Sunday and continue till August 27. By August 29,the applications are expected to reach the headquarters in Mumbai and its parliamentary board will scrutinise the forms and decide on nominees. ENS
