Focus on security,cops tell mandals

Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik on Saturday urged Ganesh mandals to co-operate with the police and remain focused on security.

Senior police officers met representatives of various Ganesh mandals in the western region at the Bhaidas Hall in Vile Parle (West). The meeting discussed security measures. “We just had serial blasts. It is imperative that security be taken seriously. Police are always working hard to prevent any untoward incidents. However,organisers of such events must help us by giving full support,” said Patnaik.

JCP (Law and Order) Rajnish Seth said the police machinery was working to the best of its capability. “The Mumbai Police,State Reserve Police Force,Quick Response Team,Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and other units will be deployed to ensure security. In western region,there are 28 points for immersions.,” said Seth. He said special care should be taken to ensure parking spots are far away from pandals.

Naresh Dahibavkar,president of Brihan Mumbai Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samanva Samiti,praised police for holding such an event. “We have learnt a lot from what we have been shown here,” said Dahibavkar.
