First Cut

Once the lights dim and the music begins,a girl in pink will narrate her travel tales as she walks the runway.

Once the lights dim and the music begins,a girl in pink will narrate her travel tales as she walks the runway. This is designer Anupama Dayal’s Spring-Summer girl and she will open the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2014,to be held from October 9-13 in Delhi. Apart from Dayal,Masaba Gupta too will open the week as she presents the Spring-Summer collection from her label,House of Masaba. Others from the Indian fashion industry are expected to take part in this bi-annual fashion fiesta.

“My collection,‘Gulabi’,tells the story of a girl who has grown up in a haveli and one day decides to travel the world. Once she is back, she opens the treasure box and re-discovers all the souvenirs she has collected over time. She feels the world is within her,” says Dayal.

Pink — from blush to burgundy — is the main colour. The designer keeps her affair with Benarasi handloom going for this range, which will be heavy on jewellery too.

On the other hand,Gupta brings jerseys and sweat-shirts to the ramp. Graphic prints,as usual, will make quirky appearances but Gupta stays away from colour. “It’s mostly black-and-white with gold and a purple-blue shade. The prints too are subdued but have embroideries on them,” says Gupta.
