FIR against engineering college management

The BMC claimed that the institute did not get two unauthorised floors demolished despite notices.

Following a complaint by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC),the police have registered a first information report (FIR) against the management of Padmabhushan Vasant Dada Patil Pratishthan’s (PVPP) College of Engineering,Sion, under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act,1966. The BMC claimed that the institute did not get two unauthorised floors demolished despite notices.

The college has been running classes from two additional unauthorised floors. The matter came to light after a students’ organisation filed a complaint against the college to the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) in 2010.

The recent complaint was registered on October 5 by Ajit Kulkarni, deputy chief engineer in BMC’s building proposal department, eastern suburbs. “The FIR has been filed and action initiated. We do not wish to comment further,” said Kulkarni.

The BMC has also asked the management to vacate the second, third and fourth floors as they do not have the requisite occupancy certificate (OC) for these floors.

Laxman Deshmukh,sub-inspector,Wadala TT police station, said,“An FIR has been registered under Section 53(1)(7) of the MRTP Act. Under this,an FIR is filed when there is opposition to demolition, and in cases where the equipment can’t be taken to the spot because of lack of approach roads.”

College principal K T V Reddy was not available for comment.
