Even after quitting the post of Navi Mumbai Congress chief and filing his nomination as an independent candidate from Belapur Assembly constituency,Namdeo Bhagat on Monday said he will rejoin the party after the election irrespective of his winning or losing. I will never go against the party I have served for 20 years. We are not against any party. We are against Ganesh Naiks supremacy in Navi Mumbai, Bhagat said.
Unhappy over the Congres-NCP alliances decision to give both Airoli and Belapur Assembly seats to NCP,14 out of 16 Congress corporators of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation including Bhagat had resigned en masse on September 23.
Bhagat had said that they were resigning as they felt that the Congress will lose its hold over Navi Mumbai if both the seats are given to NCP. But the corporator from Nerul and his allies changed their stand on Monday. We are not opposed to NCP getting both the tickets. We are against dynastic politics that is being practised in Navi Mumbai. We would not have objected if NCP had fielded someone who does not belong to the Naik family. We are scared that Navi Mumbai will turn into Naik Mumbai, Bhagat said.
Though they had even floated a new outfit called Navi Mumbai Vikas Alliance after resigning,Bhagat chose to contest independently. Since it was too late for us to form a new party,I decided to contest independently. Though I am fighting with a different symbol,I will remain a Congressman, he said.
MLA Ganesh Naik is contesting from the Belapur constituency while his son and standing committee chairman Sandeep Naik will contest from Airoli. Sandeeps elder brother Sanjeev is an MP from Thane parliamentary constituency.
Meanwhile,Bhagat has started a news channel that airs local news, mostly about his new ventures. The channel has no bias. It will show both good and bad things about Ganesh Naik and Namdeo Bhagat, he added.
