Two persons were arrested by the Juhu Police on Friday night for allegedly demanding Rs 10 lakh from a person.

Two persons were arrested by the Juhu Police on Friday night for allegedly demanding Rs 10 lakh from a person. The accused knew the victim and had worked at his house as carpenters. The accused have been identified as Ramnaresh Vishwakarma and Manoj Vishwakarma, residents of Khar (East).

“On Friday morning, they called the victim and identified themselves as members of a gang. They told the victim they would hurt his wife if he refused to pay up Rs 10 lakh,” said DCP (Zone 9) Pratap Dighavkar.

Dighavkar said the accused told they knew where he lived and worked and the only way to call off the hit on his wife was to pay the money.

“Although the victim did not want to pay the money,he decided to do so as he felt the accused would harm his wife. He then went to the Juhu police station and registered a case,” said Dighavkar.

The duo told the victim to meet on Friday night. “We laid a trap and nabbed them when the accused showed up,” said Dighavkar.

The police said they are probing to see if the duo have any other cases registered against them. The accused were presented in court and have been remanded in police custody till Monday.
