A 22-year-old engineering diploma student was allegedly stabbed to death on Friday following a quarrel over an affair with a girl. Hadapsar police have arrested a 23-year-old youth who had a relationship with the same girl in the past.

Police have identified the deceased as Mangesh Vikram Rathod,a resident of Mahadevnagar,while the accused,Ramdas Sandipan Jawale,is a resident of Warje Malwadi.

The incident took place near PMPML depot in Hadapsar. Police said Rathod was stabbed on the chest,forehead,neck and cheek.

Senior inspector Pandharinath Mandhare said,Investigation has revealed that Rathod was in a relationship with a 19-year-old girl,who had an affair with Jawale in the past. On Friday,the duo entered into an argument following which Jawale assaulted Rathod. Rathod was taken to a hospital but was declared brought dead.

Police said Rathod was pursuing diploma from an engineering college in Manjari while the accused is an M Com student.
