The development comes after the Aadhaar custodian noticed that in some instances, residents were not aware or sure about which of their mobile numbers is seeded to their Aadhaar. (File) THE UNIQUE Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) recently announced a new feature that will allow residents online verification of mobile number or email address linked with their Aadhaar card. Additionally, individuals whose Aadhaar cards are ten years old are encouraged to update their details. Deputy Director General of UIDAI Regional Office Mumbai, SUMNESH JOSHI, talks to PALLAVI SMART on how the processes are being made smooth and other plans such as one Aadhaar Seva Kendra per district in Maharashtra.
UIDAI has issued a notification suggesting individuals to update their Aadhaar if they had received it 10 years ago and continue to live at the same address. They can revalidate themselves by uploading the proof of address and identity. It is easily possible online if the individual has a mobile number linked to Aadhaar as confirmation OTP is sent to the registered mobile number. If anybody is not well-versed with the online system, or does not have their mobile number linked with Aadhaar, they can visit the nearest centre.
Individuals may be unaware that the mobile numbers or email address linked to their Aadhaar may not be the ones that they are using at the moment. The ‘verify mobile’ feature will allow individuals to check this online. There is no security concern as it only allows you to check the status. Whereas to update mobile one has to visit a centre as it requires biometric verification for the mobile update.
A plan is underway to bring one Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) in each district… These centres will function like Passport Seva Kendra wherein individuals will be given appointments for Aadhaar enrolment and updates in addition to help residents in grievances. Currently, there are nearly five such centres operating in the state. Further, we are telling the residents to dial 1947 for any Aadhaar -related issue.
A campaign is launched in combination with the Women and Child Development department of Maharashtra to increase the registration for Bal Aadhaar for 0 to 5 years of age, by involving Aanganwadis. Aadhaar registration for new-borns do not require biometric, it requires Aadhaar biometric authentication of a parent.
This service is a convenient way of withdrawing money from micro-ATMs based on your Aadhaar biometric authentication. One can visit the micro-ATM for this and upon entering Aadhaar number and selecting your bank; Aadhaar Biometric Authentication is done to ensure the identity following which transaction is made possible. The system is in assisted mode to ensure no misuse. These transactions are possible only in the presence of the business correspondent of the bank.
