An alcoholic on Sunday allegedly raped a teenager on Sunday after forcing his way into her Dadar flat, where he had once worked as a domestic. He was caught while fleeing, with neighbours having been alerted by the 16-year-old schoolgirls screams. Pandurang Yeshwant Bailkar,30,had worked at the house a few years ago,the Dadar police said. He would often revisit the family asking to be taken back. When he arrived on such a visit on Sunday evening, the girl,a Class IX student, was alone in the second-floor flat, her parents having gone out,the police said. She had latched the door, though not firmly. She was sitting in the drawing room watching television when suddenly the door flew open. A sloshed Bailkar had merely pushed the door and it gave way. He then dragged the girl to the bathroom where he allegedly raped her, said senior police inspector Ashok Unde. Bailkar then fled. He was descending the stairs when the girl came out screaming, asking other residents of the building to stop him. Residents accosted Bailkar on his way out and handed him over to us. The medical report has confirmed that the girl was raped, said an official from the police station. The girls father runs a catering business while her mother is a housewife. When Bailkar was in their employ,he made deliveries and cleaned utensils. The job being of a temporary nature,he had quit. He would sometimes turn up asking for a job but was a lazy worker and hence not entertained. His drinking habits also made his work erratic. He is unemployed and takes up small-time jobs to fund his drinking. This seems to be his first crime; we are yet to find any record against him, said the official.
