Double murder: cops to reconstruct events

The police have been granted the custody of Rajesh Kumar,a former Navy man charged with the murder of wife and daughter,till April 3.

The police have been granted the custody of Rajesh Kumar,a former Navy man charged with the murder of wife and daughter,till April 3. The Thane police will now reconstruct the events of the day based on the account of Kumar’s daughter who is the sole witness. Pramod Khade,senior police inspector of the Kasarvadavli police said,“She has been insisting that she was asleep and did not see or hear a thing.”

The material evidence collected included the assault weapon,an iron rod for grinding spices.Kumar had bludgeoned his wife and daughter on Tuesday morning. Initially he tried to pass it off as an accident but later he allegedly confessed to the crime. He said increasing debts and repeated calls from creditors were leading to fights with his wife and he took the step out of frustration. Kumar has stated that he owes Rs 10 lakh as personal loan to creditors and another Rs 29 lakh as house loan. Kumar had worked with the Navy as a petty officer. A few years ago he took up a contractual job in the Merchant Navy,however,he had been unemployed since six months.
