Two days after a domestic help allegedly jumped to death from the 17th floor of a Wadala building, forensic experts who conducted the post-mortem have asked police to reconfirm whether it is a case of suicide. They have requested cops to make a dummy of the deceased and ascertain through “trial-and-error” if the woman had indeed jumped off the building.

Police, however, maintain that there is nothing suspicious about her death.

Mansi Gupta, who was working for the Shahs for the last 10 months, stayed with them in their 17th floor residence at Cosmic Heights. She allegedly jumped off the corridor window outside the residence Tuesday morning. Police registered an accidental death report.

Forensic experts said her injuries were not consistent with fall from such a height. According to Dr Rajesh Dere from Sion hospital Gupta was found in a face-down position but there was no injury on her head. Further, the impact should have broken her bones, but there was just one fracture,he added.

DCP Dattatray Karale (Zone 4) said,“The provisional cause of death in the post mortem report has been stated as haemorrhaging shock and multiple injuries. We have no reason to suspect any foul play. If the doctors are not satisfied with the findings, they can throw the dummy off the 17th floor. They have no power to ask us to do anything.”

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sion division) Rajdoot Rupawate said,“We have several statements to indicate that she was severely depressed due to marital discord, and had thrown away her SIM card to avoid her husband Rajesh’s calls. He had called her residence and asked the family to facilitate a conversation between him and Mansi, but she refused to speak to him.”

Police are waiting for the final post-mortem report from Sion hospital. Hunt for Rajesh is on. Cops said they would decide to book him only after they question him.
