Customs arrest 4 with hydroponic weed worth Rs 19.6 crore in three separate cases
Two teams of AIU officials laid a trap at two separate places based on the profiling intercepted two passengers arriving from Bangkok on August 26.

The Air Intelligence unit (AIU) of the Customs Department arrested four accused in three separate cases at Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), allegedly seizing 19.65 kilograms of hydroponic weed from them, worth Rs 19.65 crore.
Two teams of AIU officials laid a trap at two separate places based on the profiling intercepted two passengers arriving from Bangkok on August 26. They were checked but nothing was recovered from their physical possession. The official then checked their baggage and recovered 11.64 kg of suspected Hydroponic Weed (Marijuana) collectively. The drugs were cleverly concealed inside the checked-in trolley bag carried by the passengers. Both were taken into custody for further interrogation. They were arrested under the provision of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Another team of the AIU laid a trap on the basis of specific intelligence and nabbed two passengers arriving from Phuket by flight number 6E-1072 on August 27. During the examination of the baggage, customs officers recovered 8.01 kg of suspected Hydroponic Weed (Marijuana) from the two, with an illicit market value of approximately Rs. 8.01 crore. The accused had also concealed the contraband inside the checked-in trolley bag. Both were arrested and their interrogation was going to find out whom they were going to supply the contraband in India.
In the last week, the customs officials arrested two passengers in two separate cases when they arrived from Bangkok and allegedly seized hydroponic weed worth Rs, 11.78 crore from them. The accused Bilal Rais Ahmed Sayyad was hiding contraband in 12 transparent plastic packets worth Rs. 5.78 crore. While another accused Kais Shaikh who was also coming from Bangkok and was also hiding contraband six kilograms worth Rs 6 crore.
