Crane crushes labourer to death at monorail site

“Alam somehow lost his footing and was run over. His head was crushed under wheel,” said senior inspector Kishore Bawiskar,Agripada police station.

Police suspect Alam bent to retrieve his cellphone that fell out of his pocket or lost his balance after the heel of his slipper got stuck in a front wheel of the crane. The crane driver fled. Eyewitnesses rushed Alam to Nair Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

“We are trying to trace and apprehend the driver,Shatrughan Prasad. He has been booked for causing death due to negligence,” Bawiskar said.

MMRDA spokesperson Dilip Kavatkar said,“A detailed investigation is being carried out. Due compensation will be paid to the deceased family by the contractor at the earliest.”
