THE Central Railway (CR) started a four-day mega block between Khargao and Khaman from 8 pm on Friday. CR,however,will not completely suspend the operation of local trains. The block is being undertaken to strengthen tracks on the eight-km stretch. Once the work is over,trains on the Vasai-Diva route can run at a speed of 100 kmph.
The block will be on the down between Vasai Road and Diva. The up line from Diva to Vasai will be used for traffic during the period. After this,there will be no need to work on this stretch for 10 years, said Subodh Jain,general manager at the CR.
This route is important for freight operations between Delhi and Thiruvananthapuram. Besides,several significant trains like the Rajdhani Express and Duronto use this route to cross over to Western Railway.
New foot-overbridge at Lower Parel railway station
The Western Railway (WR) recently commissioned a new foot over-bridge on the eastern side of the Lower Parel station. This is the 101st pedestrian bridge on WRs suburban section. The new foot over-bridge was constructed at a cost of about Rs 2.50 crore. It is 6.05 m wide and 42 m long,a WR spokesperson said.
