Cops: Naik harassed builders,demanded money from them

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch,which is probing an extortion case registered against former gangster Ashwin Naik,arrested on Wednesday,revealed on Friday that Naik had allegedly been harassing builders in Dadar area.

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch,which is probing an extortion case registered against former gangster Ashwin Naik,arrested on Wednesday,revealed on Friday that Naik had allegedly been harassing builders in Dadar area.

Crime Branch sources revealed that Naik allegedly troubled builders and demanded extortion money from them. Police are waiting for more complainants to step forward to register cases against Naik.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy said,Naik would call builders dealing in Slum Rehabilitation Authority projects and tell them which partners to work with,what projects to undertake and other such things, Roy said.

There have been many instances of him harassing citizens. We are awaiting more complaints against him so that we can book him under those cases as well, Roy said.

The Anti-Extortion Cell of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch arrested Naik on Wednesday. He has been remanded in police custody till June 14.
