A police inspector on Friday withdrew a PIL he had filed in the Bombay High Court, seeking that a new DGP be appointed after S S Virk’s term ends.

He had urged that the state government be restrained from re-appointing former DGP AN Roy to the post. PI Sarjerao Mahadev Shinde of the Local Arms Division of Marol Police, said Roy should not be appointed as he was in charge when 26/11 terror attacks happened.

A division bench of Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice A M Khanwilkar had wanted to know if Shinde had taken his department’s permission before filing the PIL. Shinde said he had filed it as an ordinary citizen.
