Cop killed by speeding bus,driver arrested

A traffic police constable succumbed to injuries sustained after he was knocked down by a speeding bus in Mahim on Saturday morning,the police said.

Constable Suhas Chavan,34,was on his way back from duty when the incident took place near Mahim church,they said.

The tourist bus from Gujarat was being driven by Nirbhay Singh Rathod,who knocked down Chavan while driving in a rash and negligent manner. Chavan was rushed to Bhabha Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival, said a police officer from the Mahim police station.

Rathod has been arrested and charged with causing death due to rash and negligent act,the police said.

Police are verifying if he was in an inebriated state at the time of the incident.
