Constable killed as QRT commando fires accidentally

Gupta said that a case has been registered against Dighe at the Bandra police station. “It was an unfortunate incident. As a police officer and a trained commando,Dighe should have been more cautious while handling the weapon.” Statements of other policemen present at the time of the incident will also be recorded.

At the Bhabha Hospital,Prakash Pawar,a distant relative of Padvi and a police constable attached to the Pant Nagar police,said,“Padvi’s family stays in Nasik where his father is a policeman. He got married in May last year and stayed with his wife in Kalyan. The family has been informed and they are on heir way to Mumbai.”

Padvi’s wife was not informed about his death till evening.

Pawar added that Dighe and Padvi knew each other as they belonged to the same village.

At the Bandra police station,a police officer said on the condition of anonymity,“Dighe is still in a state of shock. It seems that Dighe was checking the pistol of a constable standing nearby when it went off accidentally. Another constable,Subhash Kale,suffered a minor injury.”
