Maharashtra Congress on Monday complained to the Chief Electoral Officer of Maharashtra alleging violation of the model code of conduct (MCC) by the BJP and its leaders Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and BJP candidate from Solapur LS seat Ram Satpute after a purported video of both went viral where Satpute sought Fadnavis’ assistance to withdraw cases filed under section 353 of IPC.
“It has come to my notice, through video evidence, that Mr. Ram Satpute called upon Dy CM Devendra Fadnavis for assistance in withdrawing 353 IPC cases. Shockingly, Mr. Fadnavis agreed to facilitate this withdrawal, indicating a clear misuse of power and position. Such actions blatantly violate the codes of conduct set forth for elections, as they attempt to influence voters through unfair means,” said the letter sent by Maharashtra Congress chief spokesperson Atul Londhe to Chief Electoral Officer of Maharashtra.
Londhe added, “Furthermore, Mr. Fadnavis, acting in his capacity as the Dy CM and Home Minister during the enforcement of the MCC, thus attempting to sway voters with misleading information. It is imperative to note that the withdrawal of cases must adhere to due process, as mandated by a ruling of the Honourable SC, and any attempt to bypass this process amounts to contempt of court.”
The letter demanded ‘swift and appropriate action’ against Satpute, Fadnavis, and the BJP.
