The Congress in Maharashtra has formed a committee headed by former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan to suggest solutions to stop instances of manipulation of voters’ list.

“It has been revealed that the BJP has won the Assembly elections by manipulating the voters’ list in various ways. The BJP came to power through theft in connivance with the Election Commission. We have formed a committee to suggest solutions to prevent such incidents from happening again,” said Maharashtra Congress chief Harshavardhan Sapkal.

The committee is headed by former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and consists of a total of seven members. The committee includes All India Congress Committee Secretary Praful Gudadhe-Patil.

Patil, who contested against Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, is instrumental in fighting a legal battle against the EC by collecting data. Recently, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi had alleged electoral malpractices in Fadnavis’s constituency based on the legal fight currently fought by Gudadhe-Patil.

Other members include former minister Ashokrao Patil, state general secretary Rajesh Sharma, Assembly poll candidate Dhananjay Shirish Chaudhary, Parikshit Virendra Jagtap and state general secretary Abhay Chhajed who is the coordinator.

Sapkal said the Congress has filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission regarding irregularities in the voters’ lists. But the commission has not yet given a satisfactory explanation. “The BJP is using unfair means to win the elections and scams are being committed on a largescale in the voters’ lists. To stop all this, this committee will study and submit a report to the state Congress,” he said.
