The next time someone is holding up a queue at a metro station to get the perfect shot with their camera, be patient. Regulars of the metro have reason to whip out their smartphones and cameras and capture their favourite moments during their commute.
Majhi Metro Festival, a photography contest organised by the Mumbai Metro, opened entries earlier this month to professionals and amateurs to send in photographs that best capture the spirit of the Mumbaikar and his commute. “In 2013, we invited students from various art and architecture institutes to portray their idea of Mumbai. Their work is on display at various Metro One stations. For its present edition, we decided to theme it on “Metrosights”. It is a reflection of Metro and an optimism on Mumbai and Mumbaikars through photography,” says the spokesperson for Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL).
On the festival website, majhimetro.in, more than 2,300 entries have already been uploaded. Photos of the red, blue and orange metros pulling in or out of stations, commuters absorbed in books or music as they travel or queue up for the train, adorn the gallery page of the website.
The contest allows entries from mobile phones, point and shoot and DSLR cameras in separate categories, with the first prize fetching up to Rs 50,000. The last date for submissions is March 31.
