Come, Make in Karnataka: Siddaramaiah to Maharashtra industrialists

In Mumbai for BJP’s poll campaign, Patel had recently urged industrialists to think beyond ‘congested’ Mumbai.

Even as the political storm sparked over Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel’s ‘offer’ to industrialists from Maharashtra continues, a Congress Chief Minister has now taken steps to tap state industrialists.

Snubbing Maharashtra’s status as the country’s favourite industrial destination, Karnataka CM K Siddaramaiah has offered a string of perks to lure investors and industrialists from Maharashtra for relocating to Karnataka.

In Mumbai for BJP’s poll campaign, Patel had recently urged industrialists to think beyond ‘congested’ Mumbai. Her move had sparked off a political row, with all non-BJP parties, including the Shiv Sena and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, stoking the Mumbai versus Gujarat debate.

Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah has sparked off a fresh debate after holding deliberations with a high-level Maharashtra business delegation. Uday Dudhane, Chairperson, Gokul Shirgaon Manufacturers’ Association (Goshima), who led the delegation, confirmed that the Karnataka CM had rolled out the red carpet for industrialists’ from the state. He also confirmed that it was the Karnataka CM’s office which had organised the meeting.

Apart from offering allotment of 800 acre land in Karnataka’s Kognuli and Kanangla areas, Siddhiramaiah has agreed not to hike electricity rates for five years, Dudhane confirmed. The Karnataka government has also agreed not to levy excise duty on electricity consumption.

Following the delegation’s request, the Karnataka CM has also committed to examine the possibility of providing special concessions in sales tax besides assuring uninterrupted power supply and world class infrastructure.
