CM Devendra Fadnavis said Saturday his government’s decision to install LED lights in Mumbai and rest of Maharashtra would not be stalled by allegations made by “vested interests”.

The Shiv Sena had earlier alleged in its mouthpiece Saamana that PM Narendra Modi was trying to revive dead PSU EECL and that contracts for LEDs awarded to the nodal company were being sub-let to other subsidiaries.

“Whom the government was trying to favour?” Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray’s son Aditya had said while opposing the decision to replace golden lights along Marine Drive with white LED lights.

Refuting the charge, Fadnavis said, “Some vested interests are running a motivated campaign to deny benefits of superior lighting at much lower cost to the city of Mumbai.”

“Mumbai will save Rs 80 crore using LED lights,” he said.
