Koli Samaj pulled off a well-deserved 2-0 win against Acierto SC in a keenly contested Division III match of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) League,played at the St Xavier’s ground,Parel on Wednesday.

Koli Samaj pulled off a well-deserved 2-0 win against Acierto SC in a keenly contested Division III match of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) League,played at the St Xavier’s ground,Parel on Wednesday.

The Koli Samaj outfit held a slight edge over their rivals for a better part of the match and managed to find the back of the net twice through the efforts of Divesh Patil and Sachit Koli to clinch the issue and take home all the three points.

Later in the day,Kalpatru RS tamed Dahisar United by an identical 2-0 margin. Strikers Manish Tiwari and Prasad Shetty,both netted a goal each to complete their march towards victory.

Kalina FL set to roll from Sept 2

The Sports Committee of Our Lady of Egypt Church is all geared up to conduct the 13th Kalina Football League (KFL) which is scheduled to kick-off at the church ground from September 2. Defending champions Egyptian Boys will clash with last year’s runners-up Kalina Village Boys will kick the competition off in the opening match. A total of 10 teams,including two qualifiers will play on a round robin league basis with the top four teams qualifying for the knock-out stage.

Kunte is Lakshya president

A sportsmen is all set to lead Lakshya for the first time after chess Grandmaster Abhijit Kunte was unanimously elected the new president of the non-profit organisation that identifies and nurtures sports talent. Kunte took over from founder president Manish Kumar Jain at the organisation’s Annual General Body meeting and will head the organisation for a two year term. All the other office bearers were also elected unanimously,which include secretary Swastik Sirsikar,treasurer Bharat Shah and joint secretary Ashish Desai.

Sudesh swims to glory

Sudesh Mahendra Tandlekar of Swami Vivekanand International School,Borivali won two (1 gold & 1 silver) medals in the Mumbai district inter-school swimming competition. He won gold for his 2.26.41 finish in the 200 meters butterfly stroke event and came second with a 1.06.23 timing in the 100 meter buterfly event.

Mumbai second in state kickboxing

Mumbai bagged a rich haul of gold,silver and bronze to finish a creditable overall second in the Kickboxing Association of Nashik state-level Championship at the Raj Rajeshwari Hall,Nashik,recently. The championship,which attracted 250 participants,was held in association with the Kickboxing Association of Mumbai (KAM) under the auspices of the Kickboxing Federation of India. Mumbai earned 22 gold,17 silver and 34 bronze medals in the senior,junior and sub-junior categories for boys and girls. Among them,Akshay Kadam of Siddharth College won a gold and silver.

Last date extended for athletic meet

The last day of entries for the Mumbai Suburbs Annual Athletic Championship has been extended up to September 3. Entries will now be accepted at the MSDAA Office,Rizvi House,Hill Road,Bandra (West) upto 9 pm. The meet is scheduled to be held at Sports Authority of India (Kandivali) from September 6 to 8.
