Customs register fourth win
MUMBAI Customs scored once in each half to hand PIFA Colaba FC a 2-0 defeat in an Elite Division match of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) league at the Poinsur Gymkhana ground,Kandivili on Monday.
Siddhant Pathak opened the scoring in the 39th minute to give Customs a slender 1-0 first-half lead. Customs managed another goal when Mathias Coutinho found the back of the net in the 83nd minute. This was the second successive win and the fourth for Customs in seven matches and they now have a tally of 15 points. It’s not shaping up well this season for the Colaba outfit, however, following their third loss in four matches. And with just three points from their lone win against Kenkre FC,they have a long way to go to redeem themselves in the league.

Valentine nets glory for Mumbai colts
MUMBAI defeated Pune 1-0 to lift the Maharashtra U-17 Inter-District Football Championship Title at All Saints High School,Bhiwandi.
The final proved to be an entertaining affair with plenty of chances being created on either end but neither team managed to convert them in the first half. Mumbai got their goal in the 55th minute through Valentine Pereira and held on to their slim lead to win the game and begin their reign as the state’s U-17 champions.
Mumbai reached the final on the back of victories against Hingoli,Pune and Akola. They followed this up by beating Thane 2-1 in the semi-final. Pune,on the other hand, had a relatively longer road to the final. They demolished Washim 7-0 and then beat Solapur to enter into the league phase, where they finished runners-up behind Mumbai. They had defeated Nagpur 1-0 in the semifinals.
Earlier in the day,Yogesh Maid scored the only goal to help Thane defeat Nagpur in the battle for third spot.
Results: Final: Mumbai DFA 1 (Valentine Pereira 1) bt Pune DFA 0; 3rd place playoff: Thane 1 (Yogesh Maid) bt Nagpur 0.
Payyade regain Talim title
PAYYADE Cricket Club regained the Padmakar Talim Shield in style after thrashing Shivaji Park Gymkhana by 170 runs in the 45-over final at the MIG ground in Bandra.
Batting first,Payyade put up a sizable total of 245 in their stipulated overs thanks to half-centuries by opener Swapnil Salvi (56) and all-rounder Dinesh Salunke (54 n.o.). Shardul Thakur did make an impression with his medium-pace,finishing with figures of 3/38,while veteran Ramesh Powar and Attuf Attarwala too played their part for Shivaji Park on the field. But a target of 246 was always going to be a stiff one for Shivaji Park, and that it proved to be with only opener Akarshit Gomel even putting up a fight. The rest didn’t come to the party with seamers Usman Malvi and Vishal Dabholkar running riot with a three-wicket haul each and Shivaji Park were eventually bowled out for a paltry 128.
Brief Scores: Payyade 245 in 45 overs (Sawpnil Salvi 56,Dinesh Salunke 54 n.o.; Shardul Thakur 3/38) bt Shivaji Park Gymkhana 128 in 30.1 overs (Akarshit Gomel 42; Usman Malvi 3/20,Vishal Dabholkar 3/12) by 170 runs.
