Social activist dies in custody

Mumbai: Napoleon Lopez (50),a social activist from Vasai who had been arrested on Tuesday on charges of assaulting a corporator,died in custody after suffering a heart attack. The deceased and some others had allegedly assaulted Pravin Bhoir,a corporator of the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation,near his office in Fatherwadi on Monday. Bhoir had named Lopez for the attack and he was arrested. Thane Rural DSP Deepak Devraj said,“In custody,Lopez started having extreme chest pains. He was taken to the hospital where he died while undergoing medication.” Lopez was a leading activist of the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi and president of Bhumiputra Shramik Sanghatana.
