BMC sweeper arrested for attempt to murder

The Dindoshi police arrested a 27-year-old sweeper with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for attempt to murder after he allegedly stabbed his colleague. According to the police,the incident occurred near Gokuldham colony on Wednesday. Hemant Tambe suspected his colleague Shyam Kantikar of hatching a conspiracy to get him sacked. Kantikar suffered grievous injuries and was admitted to Sanjeevani Hospital in Malad. The victim is attached to the H-ward while the accused is attached to the I ward office of the BMC.

Student-beating case: Governor seeks report

The Governor and chancellor of universities in the state,K Sankaranarayanan,on Thursday asked Rajan Welukar,vice-chancellor of Mumbai University,to submit a report on the alleged incident of beating of a university student by a controller of examination at the Kalina campus on Wednesday. The student,Siddharth Sharma,who had gone to enquire about the delay in his revaluation result,claimed that Vilas Shinde,exam controller,slapped him.

Adnan Sami’s plea to travel abroad rejected

The sessions court on Thursday rejected Pakistan singer Adnan Sami’s plea to travel abroad for performance. Sami has been mired in several controversies,including a property dispute and a domestic dispute with his estranged wife Sabah Galadari,pending at several courts in Mumbai. Sami,who owns eight flats in Mumbai,has a criminal case pending against him under the stringent Foreign Exchange Management Act. He had moved the court seeking permission to travel abroad citing several instances when he was allowed to travel to Dubai,Australia,New Zealand and South Africa,even though the cases were pending against him. The court,however,rejected the application. “A detailed order is pending. We will move the High Court against the order,” said Sami’s lawyer I P Bagaria.
