New property tax system: BMC gets more time
The state cabinet on Wednesday granted one-year extension to the BMC to implement the capital value-based system of charging property tax in the metropolis and also decided to amend the laws to enable municipal corporations and councils to charge property tax on the capital value-based method apart from the rateable value-based system.
Officials said the extension till March 2012 was granted to the BMC as it was yet to prepare the rates for various areas, demarcate the property use on residential or commercial lines and get its records in place.
ILS trips,second runway used
The secondary runway at the Mumbai airport was in use well after 5 pm on Wednesday because the instrument landing system (ILS) of the main runway was not available for a few hours. The ILS was not available till 8 pm. Flights used the secondary runway for take- offs, said a MIAL spokesperson. The main runway is closed on weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm because of the renovation work. As a result, the smaller secondary runway, which can accommodate fewer flights per hour,is in use for the major part of the day. This has been resulting in air space congestion, resulting in flight delays.
