Justice Desai to be sworn in as SC judge

Justice Ranjana Desai of the Bombay High Court will be sworn in as a judge of the Supreme Court early next week. The 61-year-old judge will be the second female judge in the Supreme Court. She is the fifth woman to be appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court since it came into existence in 1950. Desai,a Government Law College alumnus,had enrolled herself as an advocate in 1973. She was appointed an additional judge of the Bombay High Court on April 15,1996.

Judicial employees on strike from Sept 13

The Maharashtra Judicial Employees Union has announced an indefinite strike starting from September 13,demanding better pay and creation of new posts.Union president R K Narsikar said about 40,000 employees from across the state are expected to go on strike.
