CISF men ‘assault’ cops,case against 15

The sewari police have booked 15 Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel,posted at the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) on Friday for beating up six police constables at Mallet Bunder following an altercation.

The constables — three from Wadala traffic police division and three from Yellow Gate police station—were admitted to St George Hospital. The injured traffic policemen are Pramod Tawde,Sanjay Patil and Sachin Tayde. Medical superintendent at hospital Dr Chandrakant Gaikwad said Tawde is still admitted to the hospital while others were discharged in the afternoon.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Nandkumar Chaugule said,“The incident occurred around 9.45 am at Mallet Bunder.

The CISF personnel,led by Assistant Commandant Alok Joshi,got into an altercation with the traffic constables. The CISF personnel beat up one of them. The other two intervened but they were also beaten up.”

A senior officer said the incident took place after the constables intercepted a truck entering the CISF compound from the wrong side. The CISF personnel who were inside the compound came out to argue with them,resulting in a scuffle.

Police driver Chandrakant Shelar and two other cops from the nearby Yellow Gate police station also tried to intervene in the scuffle. But they were also assaulted by the CISF men,the police said.
