Churchgate platform extension work likely to finish tomorrow

The New Year will bring relief to Western Railway commuters with the extension work of platform at Churchgate station nearing completion.

The New Year will bring relief to Western Railway commuters with the extension work of platform at Churchgate station nearing completion. Also,15-car rakes will soon ply between Churchgate and Virar.

Girish Pillai,Divisional Railway Manager,Mumbai division,WR,said,“Work of extending the platform at Churchgate is likely to be completed by January 25,but no date has been finalised for introducing 15-car rakes.”

On Churchgate-Virar section,six 15-car trains will be plied,out of which one train will run from Churchgate to Vasai. Also,three 15-car rakes will run in non peak hours since there is no additional path available in morning and evening.

Extension of the service will require change in timing of the existing 15 car trains that are plying between Dadar and Virar stations.

The 15-car rakes
* There is one down and two up 15 car trains on Dadar-Virar route. But in the proposed time table,there will be no such train. At present,there is one down and one up train on Borivali-Virar section,but in the proposed time table there are only two trains — one up and one down.
* Andheri – Virar section which has three down and one up train will now have only three two down trains and one up train. Between Dadar and Vasai,there will be no change. Between Vasai road and Andheri,like earlier,there will be one up train. Between Churchgate and Virar,5 services will be introduced — 2 down and 3 up while between Churchgate and Vasai road,one down train will run.
