CHATTERATI

A thousand words
Even if you didn’t know a high-profile exhibit was on at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Colaba, the array of swishy cars outside on the opening night would have shown it off. The Albert Kahn Collection – Journeys to India, brought to the city by Louis Vuitton, was a delightful series of photographs the banker-philanthropist accumulated from around the world.

After speeches by Harsh Goenka of the NGMA and Jerome Bonnafont, the ambassador of France to India, the beautiful people began admiring the lovely fin de siecle pictures, posing next to custom-made LV trunks, many of which were owned by Maharaja Jagatjit Singh, great grandfather of Tikka Singh of Kapurthala, now the proud advisor to Louis Vuitton. Fashionistas mingled with artists, and serious students of photography rubbed shoulders with confirmed party hoppers. Artist Bose Krishnamachari was heard showering praise on the skill of the photographers in combining aesthetics with an architectural sense of composition. Society maven Queenie Dhody,a confirmed LV fiend, omitted the technical jargon to simply state that the pictures had left her speechless. Also air-kissing were Roohi Jaikishan,Arti Surendranath,Laila Lamba,Payal Khandwala, models Dipanita Sharma and Nina Manuel and designers Narendra Kumar and Lascelles Symmons.

Showstopper A remarkably clear a/v of the Kapurthala dynasty had everyone spellbound with its regalia.

Caught on camera
Most of Tinsel-town turned up in full flush at ace photographer Daboo Ratnani’s 2010 calendar launch at Olive Bar & Kitchen,Khar, yesterday. Without the flashy lighting it would have been a task for us to spot Shah Rukh Khan who turned up in an all-black ensemble replete with black shoes and watch. Hrithik Roshan was seen gawking at his lovable grizzly bear image in black and white. Kunal Kapoor was flanked by poster girls Genelia D’Souza and Pooja Bedi. Stylissimas Sheetal Mallar (whose vintage top belonged in a museum) and Farah Khan Ali were caught sharing an intimate one-on-one. Other stars included Vidya Balan,Minissha Lamba and DJ Aqeel.

Bummer Did Pooja Bhatt decide to turn up in her silk nightgown? That might be taking the tousled,just-out-of-bed look a tad too far, don’t you think?
