Milind Deora,Congress MP from Mumbai-South parliamentary constituency,cast his vote at 8 am at Activity School Peddar Road. He was accompanied by his wife Pooja and father Murli Deora. “I’d like to thank all the voters who came out and participated in the elections. I’m thanking them for fulfilling what I believe is every adult’s duty and privilege,” he said.

Ajit Wadekar,Former Indian coach and cricket great and a resident of Worli,voted at a municipality school near the Worli seaface.

“My entire family — my wife,daughter and I — went to the polling booth at around 9.30 am. Despite being early,we were greeted by a long queue at the school. Nowadays a lot of people have become aware of their responsibility to vote. To those who didn’t vote,I’d like to say that they are still ignorant of their democratic value. They need to wake up.”

Divya Dutta,actor who lives in Juhu,cast her vote at Manikji Cooper School,Juhu,in the afternoon. She said,“I was hanging out at the polling centre for long and saw that a lot of people have stepped out to vote in my area this time. It was heartening. I think people are finally getting the message that there’s no point complaining and that it’s time we choose our own leader. All I can say is we’re on the right track and should continue being active.”

Lyricist Javed Akthar and actor Shabhana Azmi went voting at a municipality school near Hare Rama Hare Krisha temple,Juhu at 9.30 am.

Akthar said,“At the time we visited the polling booth,the place was virtually empty but crowd began pouring in

after 11 am. For us,it was a peaceful experience but let’s wait and watch what the results have in store for us.”
