VJTI student drowns in Tulsi lake

A 17-year-old student of Veermata Jijabai Institute of Technology (VJTI) drowned in Tulsi lake inside Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) on Wednesday evening, the police said. The student, Mandar Patkar, was part of a group of 40 students who had ventured out to the lake. Patkar’s body has not been recovered. “Patkar spotted a wooden plank in the middle of the lake and swam towards it. On reaching it, he tried to climb it but slipped and drowned,” said Fulsing Pawar, senior inspector, Mulund police station. Search operations had to be called off due to poor light, he added.

Three injured as tree falls in Dadar

Three persons were injured after a banyan tree fell on a road at Golmes Wadi in Dadar (West) Wednesday. The incident occurred around 4.30 pm and damaged slum structures in the vicinity, said S C Shelar, junior tree officer, G/North ward. Madhavi Hadshi (17), Malti Hadshi (56) and Fernandes (73) suffered minor injuries, according to BMC’s disaster management cell.
