Cops point at business rivalry

A man was murdered outside a shop on Friday allegedly due to business rivalry. The incident took place when Aakash Sawant,a catering supervisor, was making his way out of Amrut Caterers to whom he often supplied workers. The police have arrested three catering workers for the murder.

On Friday, the three spotted Sawant near Jyoti Studio on Grant Road and hit him on the head with a stone. When they realised that Aakash was dead, they dumped his body on Kennedy Bridge at Gamdevi. At 7am on Saturday, the Gamdevi Police received a call informing them of the body. A local staying near the studio informed the police about Sawant’s identity as he had seen him at Amrut Caterers on many occasions. Postmortem at JJ Hospital revealed that Sawant died of internal head injuries.

“The incident occurred at 12am and the body was dumped on Kennedy Bridge,” said a police officer who did not wish to be named. Anil Kubhare,DCP (Zone 2),said the police will not reveal the identities of the suspects.

The police came to know that Sawant and his rivals supplied workers to the same caterers. “Some people are being questioned and the police are investigating the case,” said Sanjay Divadkar,Senior Inspector,Gamdevi police station.
