A day after the BMC invoked the Maharashtra Essential Services and Maintenance (MESMA) Act of 2011 and secured a stay from the Bombay High Court against the strike threatened by civic engineers, engineers postponed the agitation Tuesday. The court Tuesday directed the Municipal Engineers Union to submit a report on their grievances against the civic body. A copy of the report has to be submitted to the BMC,which will have to appear before the court on January 8.
We postponed the strike after receiving the HCs stay order Monday night. We appealed to the court to hear our grievances today and we have been asked to table a report, said Sainath Rajadhyaksha, general secretary of Brihanmumbai Municipal Engineers Union.
The joint action committee of Brihanmumbai Municipal Engineers Union and the Municipal Engineers Association of the BMC had threatened to go on a three-day strike starting Tuesday in protest against the arrest and suspension of civic engineers in connection with the Dockyard Road building collapse of September 27 that killed 62 persons.
