Dharavi residents will hoist black flags atop their houses from June 15 to protest a state government redevelopment plan.

Dharavi residents will hoist black flags atop their houses from June 15 to protest a state government redevelopment plan.

Dharavi Bachao Andolan (DBA) has been demanding houses of 400 square feet for all residents and a corpus fund of Rs 5 lakh for their maintenance.

The organisation, supported by parties such as Shiv Sena,BJP,Bahujan Samaj Party,Samajwadi Party and Republican Party of India, has accused the Congress-led state government of ignoring interests of slum-dwellers.

“The state government is rushing things because leaders want to show some work before elections. The black flags are to attract the attention of the House to our problems as the monsoon session starts in June,” said Ramakant Gupta, president of DBA.

DBA also alleged that in the draft development plan for Dharavi prepared by the state government, prime land had been set aside as sale component.
