Elevation of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and Baramati MP Supriya Sule as party’s national working president has once again cast a shadow on party leader Ajit Pawar and how this appointment will further impacting the tenuous relationship that he shares with his uncle Sharad Pawar.

Two months ago, reports were making rounds about Ajit Pawar joining hands with the BJP despite he denying any such move.

On Saturday, NCP leaders were quick to ward off any such speculations. Pawar ridiculed the reports about Ajit Pawar’s unhappiness saying it does not have even 1% of truth.

While Ajit Pawar was reluctant to comment on the decision after the programme in Delhi and rushed to Pune, he released a statement congratulating both Sule and Patel about the appointment.

“The newly appointed members of the national executive will fulfil the vision of Pawar saheb under his leadership and guidance,” he said.

Ajit Pawar is known as one of the strongest mass leaders within the NCP. However, he has always maintained that he does not have national aspirations and wants to work only in Maharashtra. Having served as Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister four times, he is the strongest contender from the NCP for the Chief ministerial post in future.

He has till now never taken an organisational responsibility within the party. Party’s state unit president Jayant Patil said that the people should stop efforts to investigate whether his party leaders are unhappy. “We have completed 24 years today and this is the day of joy and happiness. The decision announced in Delhi was taken in the presence of Ajit Pawar. It seems efforts are being done at the national level to spread rumours about our party,” said Patil.
