Whenever there has been talks of Kaun Banega Crorepati making a comeback, the viewers hoped to see Amitabh Bachchan as the host-cum-quizmaster,yet again. So,it was heartening that the legendary actor announced his return to the show on Wednesday afternoon at an event held at JW Marriott,Juhu. While the name of the show and prize money remain the same, this time around Sony Entertainment Channel seized the opportunity to host this path-breaking quiz show, which revolutionised Indian television.
With its immense popularity, the first season of the show had even salvaged Bachchans then drooping career. So when he was asked to judge the show yet again, his obvious answer was yes. The minute Sony approached me to host the show,I was raring to go, said Bachchan. I dont even have too many films in hand at the moment. So I have all the time to host, he joked.
Since the rights to air the show have been taken over by Sony, the format is bound to change. But we cannot reveal much now, said Alit Thakur, executive vice-president and Business Head,Sony. He,however, revealed that the show would be aired in September if everything went as planned. Efforts will be made for more participation, this time. There will be more call facilities so that people from more Indian cities can contest on the show, he added. The show will also follow an entrance test kind of a format so that participants with higher general knowledge can get through. A survey found out that KBC is the most popular show among Indian housewives. Most people said they would prefer KBC to other shows, revealed Thakur.
Rumour mills have often predicted the shows comeback. It was only a matter of time before it returned to the small screen, said Siddharth Basu, the force behind the show. It was said that the return of KBC has pushed 10 Ka Dum to the backburner. Thakur, however, dismissed it. Both Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan enjoy enormous star power. We might run both KBC and 10 Ka Dum simultaneously to garner higher TRPs, he said.
