Jewellery designer Farah Khan’s creation,a bejwelled crown, finds a place in Beyonce’s new album for her ‘Goddess’ look

A routine work e-mail a few days ago from Swarovski, turned out to be a pleasant surprise for jewellery designer Farah Khan. Having designed for the Austrian brand in the past,Khan got to hear how the “Goddess” crown designed by her for their opulent “Runway Rocks” show held in London in 2008,had been chosen by R&B singer Beyonce Knowles to wear in her new album titled 4.

Khan didn’t really need to download the photo of the crown to recognise her creation — an ornate crown designed using 3,000 pieces of smoky topaz, orange citrine, pearls and more. “It’s a very earthy piece that has bursts of gold,” says Khan, whose inspiration for the crown was an Indian goddess. “Since it was a runway show,I wanted to make it grand with an Indian touch,” says Khan.

Interestingly, the crown made its way into the Swarovski archives, and was recently pulled out after Beyonce made her selection. “It’s a great feeling to know that my creation impressed her. She’s a style icon herself and personally,I couldn’t be happier to see someone such as her wearing my design,” says Khan, who made the official announcement along with Beyonce’s photograph sporting the crown on Twitter.

Khan’s latest muse is the Indian tiger. “My last collection was about animals and I am now taking that forward with a ‘Save the Tiger’ charity show,” says the designer, who is also in talks with the Ministry of Environment for a show that will be held soon.

Khan feels that the awareness would go a long way in saving the magnificent animal. The funds from the show will go to NGOs working to save our national animal.
