BEST bus mows down man in Goregaon

Route number 349 of Dindoshi bus depot mowed down pedestrian Dataram Mahadev Bandarkar (48) near Mahanand Dairy in Goregaon at 10.20 am. The driver, Suresh Rangarao Shinde (36), has been booked under Section 304 (a) (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code by the Vanrai police.

The victim was taken to Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Hospital in Jogeshwari from where he was shifted to Sion Hospital. However, Bandarkar succumbed to his injuries at Sion Hospital.

In another incident, passenger Lata M Nair (35) was injured after a BEST bus on its way to CBD Belapur met with an accident at Maharashtra Nagar in Mankhurd at 6 am. The Mankhurd police filed an incident report.

A BEST spokesperson said the bus rammed into an electric pole, after a tempo tried to overtake it and the driver lost control of the vehicle. Driver Suresh P Ahire and conductor Nandkumar Namdeo Pawar also sustained injuries in the accident. The passenger was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
