BEST bus knocks down pedestrian

The victim,Sampat Ganpat Gaikwad,a resident of Amardeep society in the Parksite area of Vikhroli (West) was crossing the road. He worked as a fruit-seller in Ghatkopar and lived with his mother,wife and two children.

Only on Monday morning,13 school students,two teachers,a driver and a cleaner suffered injuries after the school bus in which they were travelling collided with a BEST bus near the Nahur bridge in Mulund.

Police said the bus driver of route Number 387 lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the victim,crushing him beneath the rear wheel.

“Residents rushed the victim to the Rajawadi Hospital but he was declared brought dead. The driver was later handed him over to us,” an officer said.

The driver,Nitin Sadanand Salave,was arrested for causing death due to negligence and will be produced before a magistrate’s court on Thursday.

A BEST spokesperson said a departmental investigation will be initiated.
