Thane ex-mayor files PIL against illegal parking

Former Thane city mayor Ashok Vaity has filed a PIL in Bombay High Court seeking action against illegal parking. He has objected to “illegal and unauthorized obstructions to service and other roads by parking old vehicles which are unattended by owners and ignored by traffic police”. Vaity has referred to section 127 of Motor Vehicles Act,1988,which states in cases of unauthorized parking or abandonment for more than 10 hours in a legal parking area, traffic police can tow away or immobilize vehicles using wheel clamps.

He cited a service road near Thane RTO office which is used to divert traffic from Nashik-Thane Highway and contended similar problems existed in other parts of the city as well. Vaity demanded a committee to create a “traffic policy” for Thane.
