Petition against shrines demolition

The Bombay Catholic Sabha(BCS) on Thursday filed a petition in the Bombay High Court against the BMC’s decision to demolish illegal crosses in the city. The BCS has asked the court to call for records pertaining to the BMC’s policy regarding illegal shrines. They have stated that the BMC has misinterpreted the earlier orders of the Supreme Court. The corporation is giving a 48-hour notice prior to the demolition as against the two weeks prescribed by the apex court,the petition states.

Major marriage: HC reserves order

The Bombay High Court on Thursday reserved its orders in the case of Major Yogesh Chandra Sayankar who had moved court after the Indian Army did not grant him permission to quit to marry US-based Shruti Kulkarni. Sayankar’s counsel Anand Grover argued that despite Sayankar’s willingness to pay his training costs to the Army,the latter refused to relieve him from duties. Kulkarni is a PIO card holder. The Army’s counsel argued that a registered army officer does not have the permission to resign. Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice SJ Vajifdar said they are likely to pass an order in the case next week.

WR services hit

Western Railway services were disrupted on Thursday after a Virar-bound local had to be stopped for 30 minutes when a plastic cover of an overhead equipment wire was dislodged. The WR administration,however,claimed that it was a TVC pipe from a foot overbridge. Sharat Chandrayan,Chief Public Relations Officer,said,“ A TVC pipe was hanging from the foot overbridge. It is not known if it belonges to the railways. It took only 15 minutes to remove the pipe. Three down line trains were diverted from Goregaon to Borivali.”
