The Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar memorial will have a 350-feet statue of the father of the Indian Constitution.

The Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar memorial project at Indu Mill in Mumbai’s Dadar is expected to be ready only by May 2026, said officials of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The project’s previous completion deadline was March 2024.
The MMRDA, which is carrying out the construction works, said the project will take 36 months to complete — 30 months for the statue and six months for the external development works.
The memorial site will have a 350-feet statue of Dr Ambedkar. The material, made in pieces in Ghaziabad, will be assembled and erected at the site.
According to officials, the project got delayed after the height of the statue was changed from 250 feet to 350 feet as fresh approvals had to be obtained.
Overall, 35 per cent of the project is complete till date. The ancillary structures are 52 per cent ready, 95 per cent of works towards parking basements (two basements) is complete, the entrance plaza is 80 per cent complete, 70 per cent of the lecture hall is complete, 75 per cent of the library, 55 per cent of the auditorium and exhibition foyer, 18 per cent of the monument statue and 45 per cent of the pedestal building is complete.
The total project cost amounts to Rs 1,089.95 crore. The statue consists of a structural steel armature skeleton cladded with bronze metal skin panels.
As per the MMRDA, a 25-feet model of the statue has been approved by the government of Maharashtra.
The project will be developed into a popular tourist destination where the works of Ambedkar will be highlighted. Every year on December 6, lakhs of people — who are followers of Ambedkar — congregate at the Chaitya Bhoomi to pay their respect on his death anniversary.
Chaitya Bhoomi is the final resting place of Ambedkar, which was inaugurated in 1971. Whereas, Indu Mill is very close to this site.
This year too, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has made arrangements and over six lakh people are expected to visit Chaitya Bhoomi. Railways too have made extra arrangements at Dadar station. As per the Central Railways, extra enquiry and UTS counters will be opened at Chaitya Bhoomi site from Tuesday December 5.
Two extra UTS counters will be opened at Dadar and CSMT stations. Eight Up and one Down special long-distance trains are being run to facilitate movement of devotees from different locations. Also, 12 (Up and Down) extra suburban services will be running on December 5 and 6 for commuters to take extra load.
