YOU are never too old to find love. At least that is what an NGO has set out to achieve help single senior citizens find the comfort of companionship.
Silver Innings Foundation last month started the citys first marriage bureau for people aged over 50. Named Silver Innings Matrimonial and Companionship, the bureau started with four registrations. The number has now gone up to 25.
The NGO struck upon the idea following the success of a speed dating meet for senior citizens in Ahemdabad it organised last month. The meet was aimed at helping single senior citizens find themselves a mate either live-in partner or a spouse.
The response to the speed dating meet in April was amazing. Over 300 elderly people participated in the event. Of them, six have found a match for themselves, four have started dating and one couple is considering marriage, said Shailesh Mishra, the NGOs founder.
He added,This marriage bureau is yet another way to help our elderly friends. We are expecting 100 more people to register with us in the next two months. Once we cross that benchmark,we will organise speed dating meets,get-togethers and parties where the elderly get an opportunity to interact with each other.
A 58-year-old financial consultant who registered with the bureau said,Silver Innings has taken up a nobel cause. They have been helping people in their old age in a number of ways. The marriage bureau, too, will help a lot of people single, divorcee or widowed find a companion they can spend the rest of their lives with happily and peacefully.
Silver Innings Foundation has been working for senior citizens and their family members for the last five years. We are finding new ways to help senior citizens. Old age is a time when a person needs love and care the most. We want people to understand that and extend support to our initiative, said Mishra.
