Mumbai: As residents of the Campa Cola compound struggle to save their houses from demolition,Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray tweeted in their support Thursday evening, asking Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to use his discretionary powers and save the compound.
And as the deadline nears for the Campa Cola residents, only one question on my mind, will the CM act? Section 22(M) of MRTP Act can be used. As much as I know, this discretionary power has been used by the CM a few years ago, penalising and regularising the houses, Aditya tweeted. Thackeray said it is the errant builders and officials who must be punished. He said people could not be rendered homeless. Im sure the CM has taken a legal opinion, but according to most legal opinions I have taken, the section 22 (M) can be invoked by the CM, he tweeted.
Meanwhile,Shiv Sena corporator Makarand Narvekar visited the residents on Friday and requested the CM to make use of his powers.
Mayor Sunil Prabhu and BMC standing committee chairman Rahul Shewale also visited the compound Friday. Prabhu also urged the CM to consider Campa Cola as a special case and help the residents from being rendered homeless. ENS
