An official said that on April 26, the complainant approached the BMC A ward for certain permissions regarding a cafe owned by his friend in south Mumbai. THE ANTI-Corruption Bureau on Saturday trapped a BMC Sub Engineer while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh to not take action against a cafe in south Mumbai.
An official said that on April 26, the complainant approached the BMC A ward for certain permissions regarding a cafe owned by his friend in south Mumbai. Two BMC employees visited the cafe and asked the complainant to meet Sub Engineer holding charge of Assistant Engineer (inspection), Sunil Bharambe. The complainant met Bharambe on May 3 where he allegedly demanded Rs 5 lakh bribe. Eventually, he agreed to Rs 3 lakh and demanded Rs 2 lakh on Saturday.
Not wanting to make the payment, the complainant approached the ACB. On Saturday, while making the payment, ACB officials caught Bharambe while accepting the bribe following which he was placed under arrest, an official said.
