The Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board (MBRRB) will conduct a biometric survey — using Aadhaar and e-KYC authentication — to verify the bonafides of residents in transit camps.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has granted approval to MBRRB for the survey. “Earlier, biometric survey faced challenges with residents showing Aadhaar cards or other photo IDs. However, authentication proved difficult. With UIDAI access, the process will now be streamlined without manual intervention,” an official said.

According to MHADA, a state government decision from September 13, 2019 instructed MBRRB to categorise tenants into ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’. ‘A’ includes original tenants relocated to transit camps, ‘B’ encompasses residents who obtained transit camp plots from original tenants through a letter of attorney, and ‘C’ comprises unauthorised squatters in transit camp houses.
